Director Verification Results
This article aims to help you understand the results you may see for Credas' director verification journeys - Companies House ID Verification & Companies House ID Verification + AML. If you are hoping to understand the requirements and seven steps that need to be satisfied to meet Companies House Standards as well, please view our article here.
Once the individual has completed their journey, you will see their results appear on their profile. These results will differ depending on the journey you have issued to the individual, and also what documents the individual has provided. You should likely expect the below to appear for each journey:
Companies House ID Verification
- Liveness
- Identity Document Verification
- Supporting documents (dependent on which documents the individual has provided)
- Address & Mortality
Companies House ID Verification + AML
- Liveness
- Identity Document Verification
- Supporting documents (dependent on which documents the individual has provided)
- Address & Mortality
- PEPs & Sanctions
An example of results you may see for the 'Companies House ID Verification + AML' is pictured below.
Liveness Results
Our passive liveness technology automatically measures and analyses physical characteristics and reactions to determine if the person being captured is live and present. We then compare the image captured to the image on the document to verify that the same person is present in both images.
For help understanding your liveness results, please view our guidance here.
Identity Document Results
Companies House has outlined two different options that can be met to satisfy their requirements for Identity documents - Option 1 & Option 2 as can be seen below. Credas allows individuals to capture documents satisfying either option.
Credas will verify documents from 'Option 1' & 'Option 2 - Group A', and you can read our detailed guide on how to understand these results further here.
Option 1 | Option 2 |
If using an IDVT you can rely upon one of the following documents if they are cryptographically verified | If documents cannot be verified from option 1, then you will need two forms of ID such as the examples from the below list |
| Group A
|
Group B
|
A full list of the Identity Documents Companies House accept can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-meet-companies-house-identity-verification-standard
Therefore, an individual can meet either option by meeting the following:
Option 1: If an individual has successfully submitted and passed a document from 'Option 1' (e.g., a valid biometric passport), no further documentation is required—provided you are satisfied with the result. If the individual did not successfully scan their passport NFC, or they uploaded a different document from 'Option 1', they will be asked to provide a document from 'Option 2 - Group B'. Whilst not mandatory, this can be used as additional supporting documentation if your organisation chooses, such as a proof of address document.
Option 2: If an individual has not submitted a document from 'Option 1' and instead chosen to capture a document from 'Option 2 - Group A', Credas will automatically ask the individual to provide a document from 'Option 2 - Group B'. If you are satisfied with the documentation provided, it will be considered sufficient to meet the Companies House standard under 'Option 2'.
If an Identity Document fails or refers, you can read our guidance here.
Supporting Document Results
If an individual was unable to successfully scan their passport's NFC chip, Credas will automatically ask the individual to provide a document from 'Option 2 - Group B', which will be a non-biometric document. The non-biometric document from 'Group B' will appear as a 'supporting document' within the individuals profile. The supporting document will always appear as 'pending validation' and will need remediation from yourselves.
If an individual has not provided an Identity Document from the 'Option 1' list above, as they have provided a document from the 'Option 2 - Group A' list instead; this supporting document is also needed to meet the requirements for 'Option 2'. You will need to review the 'Group B' document and ascertain if the document is real. If the individual has provided an Identity Document from the 'Option 1' list and you are satisfied with this document, then you can use this supporting document as additional supporting evidence if your organisation wishes, such as a proof of address document.
To view and remediate the supporting document, click on 'Review' in the supporting documents tab.
After this, you will be able to see review the document and remediate the result by pass/failing it as well as adding a comment on your decision. This comment will then appear within the 'notes' tab of the individuals profile for an audit trail.
Address & Mortality Results
You will also see an Address & Mortality tab appear on the individuals profile, this result can be used to ascertain if the individual lives at the current residential address they have provided and they are not deceased. This result can also be used to help establish the identity has existed over time and is not synthetic/fabricated (a requirement of Step Four of the Companies House Standard that can be viewed here). Our Address & Mortality check uses sources from the UK electoral roll, HALO database and UK financial institutions.
To understand the Address & Mortality results further, please read our Address & Mortality results guidance here.
PEPs & Sanctions Results
You will see a PEPs & Sanctions tab appear on the individuals profile if you chosen the journey 'Companies House ID Verification + AML'. To understand your PEPs & Sanctions results in more detail and how you can remediate them, please read our guidance here.
Additional Evidence
If an individual has provided additional evidence supporting their claim, such as proof of a name change, you can find these documents within the 'Evidence' section of the individual's profile below. You will need to ascertain if this document is real and provides satisfactory proof that the individual of the individuals name change.
If you would like to add any additional evidence to the individuals profile and PDF that you have obtained; you can do so by uploading additional evidence laid out in the steps here. Also, if you would like to add any notes/comments to the individuals profile and PDF; you can do so by following the steps laid out here.

What's Next?
You need to ascertain if the seven steps laid out by Companies House have been met including if you are satisfied the person is who they claim to be and you have been able to verify them to the required standard . You can view an overview of these steps here. You must keep records all the evidence and information used to verify an individual's identity for seven years from the date the identity verification was verified. Companies House has clarified this includes:
- Copies of the documents checked;
- Evidence of the identity checks completed;
- Records of any failed verification attempts.
Finally...
- If you have been able to verify the individuals identity, you need to tell Companies House you have verified the individual which you can do here.
- If you have been unable to verify the individuals identity, you still need to keep these records for seven years.
