1. Journeys

The results you will see will depend on which tenant check you have sent to the individual to complete, whether you have Credas+ remediation and if the tenant has a British/Irish passport. The below sections of this article highlight which checks you will see depending on which journey you have issued.

The below images is an example of results you may see for Right to Rent | Sanctions when the tenant has captured a British/Irish passport.

1.1. Right to Rent

For the Right to Rent journey you will see the below checks appear on the individuals profile:

  • Liveness
  • Identity Verification (if the tenant provided a British/Irish passport)
  • Digital Identity Trust Framework
  • Right to Rent

1.2. Right to Rent | Sanctions

For the Right to Rent | Sanctions journey you will see the below checks appear on the individuals profile:

  • Liveness
  • Identity Verification  (if the tenant provided a British/Irish passport)
  • Digital Identity Trust Framework
  • Right to Rent
  • Sanctions

1.3. Right to Rent | Address | Sanctions

For the Right to Rent | Address | Sanctions journey you will see the below checks appear on the individuals profile:

  • Liveness
  • Identity Verification  (if the tenant provided a British/Irish passport)
  • Digital Identity Trust Framework
  • Right to Rent
  • Address & Mortality
  • Sanctions

2. Liveness

For liveness, we will ask the individual to take a liveness selfie which we will verify using AI technology to confirm if they are live and present. If we are unable to confirm the tenants liveness, we will ask them to complete a unique action (i.e. a pose such as putting their finger on their nose). This unique action will be verified within four hours. If the liveness has failed, this means we have been unable to verify that the individual was live and present when completing this task - this could be for a number of reasons such as the individual is not in the frame, they did not complete the unique action or they have taken a photograph of someone via a computer screen. For more information on liveness results, please view our liveness results guide here.

If the liveness result has failed, this will in turn cause the Digital Identity Trust Framework to fail as Credas have not been unable to verify the individuals identity.

2.1. What do you do if the liveness has failed?

If the liveness has failed, it is down to your internal compliance policies on what you should do next, and you should always speak to your manager/compliance offer before proceeding with any next steps. You are able to ask the individual to have another attempt by resubmitting the check to them by following the steps laid out here. Alternatively, you are able to override Credas' result if you feel confident to do so (please note this ability is dependent on the permissions assigned to you by your manager/admin user). To override the results, please see our guide here - please note, overriding the  Credas result will not update the Digital Identity Trust Framework, to get the Digital Identity Trust Framework to update/pass, you will need to resubmit the check to the individual.

3. Identity Document Verification

The Identity Verification Check will appear if the individual captured a British/Irish passport. The reason for this is the Home Office states that you will only establish a statutory excuse when using an Identity Service Provider (IdSP) where the IdSP verifies the identity of an individual using an in-date UK/Irish Passport belonging to a British/Irish Passport. Our journeys are configured to meet this compliant specification, where you wish to deviate from this specification (by capturing additional documents other than a British/Irish passport), we will ask you to sign a waiver. Please get in touch with our support team by submitting a ticket here, for further information.

For the Identity Document Verification, you will be presented with an image of the passport captured, as well as the checks that have been run on the document (and whether they have passed or failed).

3.1. What do you do if the Identity Document has failed?

 In instances where the Identity Document Verification has failed, you may also see a detailed report appear, this detailed report will go into more granular detail and help you identity the specific reason on reasons for failure such as if the document. To understand the results you may see for the Identity Document Verification and what you should do if the document has failed in more detail, please read our guide here. Nevertheless, just as with the liveness, if you wish for the individual to resubmit the document please view the steps here.

4. Digital Identity Trust Framework

The Digital Identity Trust Framework will pass if Credas has been successful in verifying the individuals identity. To pass, both the liveness and Identity Document Verification needs to pass. If either the liveness or Identity Document has failed, the Digital Identity Trust Framework will fail. If the individual has not submitted a British or Irish passport (i.e. if they upload their share code instead), the Digital Identity Trust Framework will always appear as fail, unless, you have requested that Credas obtains the settled status documents for you, however you would need to sign a waiver for this.

You will be unable to override the Digital Identity Trust Framework, and the only way for the Digital Identity Trust Framework to pass will be to resubmit the Right to Rent check to the individual in the hopes that they pass their liveness and Identity Verification Document.

5. Right to Rent

When the individual has completed their check, the Right to Rent module will appear as orange, as below, as it will always need your manual review The reason for this is because whilst the Home Office permits an IdSP to verify an identity for the purposes of a right to rent check; it does not permit the IdSP to decide for the letting agents whether the verified identity has the Right to Rent. How and when you verify the Right to Rent module is down to your own internal compliance policies, you may wish to only verify the Right to Rent module after you have completed the impostor check but you should liaise internally with your manager/compliance officer if you are unsure.

Furthermore, if the individual has captured a share code, you will need to review the Right to Rent module to retrieve this share code, which is explained below in Section 5.2.

5.1. British/Irish Passport

In the instance that the individual has captured their British or Irish passport, you can follow the below steps to pass or fail the module:

1. Firstly, you will need to click 'Review' on the Right to Rent module;

2. Next, you will be presented with the British or Irish passport alongside some of the checks that have been run on the Identity Document. Click on the 'Review Now' button at the bottom of the screen;

3. After this, you will need to select the 'Status' of the Right to Rent module i.e. pass or fail. You will also need to provide a comment, this comment will appear within the individuals profile and also on the PDF so there is an audit trial of the change;

4. Lastly, click 'Save Changes' and the status will then be updated.

5.2. Non-British/Irish Passport

In the instance that the individual has uploaded their share code, you can follow the below steps to obtain the settled status document and upload it into the Credas portal. Where you have requested that Credas obtain the settled status document for you, the Right to Rent module will be updated by Credas as well as the settled status document being uploaded and reviewed by Credas. For these instances you will not need to obtain the settled status documents, however we still recommend reviewing the information and settled status document uploaded by Credas.

Obtaining the settled status documents yourselves:

1. View the share code by clicking into the Right to Rent module.

2. Next, click 'Upload share code PDF for ....'

3. You will then be presented with the share code number and the individuals date of birth.

4. Using this information, you can obtain the settled status document from the UK Governments website before uploading it into this Credas section.

5. You will need to provide a 'Status' for the individuals Right to Rent and confirm if the name and face match before providing a comment.

6. Sanctions

If you have issued a journey that includes sanctions, you will see a PEPs & Sanctions tab appear on the individuals results profile. If any possible matches for Sanctions on the individual including OFSI and international sanctions occur, these will appear. If you have our Credas+ remediation service, our trained back office team will remediate these possible sanctions matches for you. You can read our guide on results here.

You can also have ongoing monitoring applied for individuals so you will be notified of any changes to the individuals sanctions record for a period of time of your choosing. For more information on ongoing monitoring, please click here.

7. Address & Mortality

If you have issued the Right to Rent | Address | Sanctions journey, you will also see an Address & Mortality result appear. This uses data from the UK Electoral Roll, UK Credit Database, UK Deceased Person's Database to verify the individuals Address & Mortality. The Address & Mortality result will either appear as a pass or a refer; a refer means that we have been unable to find enough information from the data sources to verify the individuals Address & Mortality. To understand the Address & Mortality results more, please read our guide here.
