PEPs & Sanctions Settings

At Credas, we offer the ability to customise your PEPs & Sanctions settings according to your internal compliance needs. These settings will apply to any journeys that you issue which include PEPs & Sanctions. This article describes the full customisable settings we offer.

Default Settings

When your portal is set up on Credas, default PEPs & Sanctions settings are applied. An example of typical default settings can be seen using the below button.

If you wish to have different PEPs & Sanctions applied than your existing default, then please read through the below options we offer for customisation within this article, before then filling in a form requesting the changes you wish to make here.

Customisable Settings

Datasets

PEPs: Individuals currently employed in positions identified as politically exposed.

Former PEPs: Individuals who ceased being employed in positions identified as politically exposed within the last twelve months.

PEPs by association: Individuals identified as relatives and/or close associates of PEPs.

Sanctions: Individuals currently subject to financial sanctions.

Former Sanctions: Individuals previously subject to financial sanctions.

Adverse Media*: Individuals mentioned on government/court websites and/or reputable mass media for crimes relating to terrorism, organised crime, modern slavery, financial crime and fraud, bribery and corruption, and cyber crime.

Law Enforcement*: Individuals named in press releases by law enforcement (e.g. Metropolitan Police) as well as published lists (e.g. Serious Crime Prevention Orders as published by the National Crime Agency).

Disqualified Director*: Individuals on the UK Companies House Disqualified Directors Register.

Profiles of Interest*: Individuals who may not necessarily fall into one of the above categories, but may still be relevant. An example of a POI is Boris Johnson, who is no longer a PEP, and hasn't been for over 12 months.

*These profiles are not included within Credas+ remediation, any possible matches identified for these datasets will therefore require manual remediation from yourselves.

PEP Tiers

  • Tier 1 - Examples include heads of states, members of government, and party leaders.
  • Tier 2 - Examples include senior officials of law enforcement agencies and judges.
  • Tier 3* - Examples include middle and low ranking diplomats.

Click here for a full list of the tiers.

*Under UK Regulations, only roles within Tier 1 & 2 are considered PEPs. By requesting your PEP tiers to search all tiers, this will result in more false-positives.

Countries

All: This identifies individuals across the globe, rather than limiting it to individuals of a specific nationality.

Specific countries: If you wish to amend your settings to specific countries, this means only individuals from the countries you select will appear. For example, if you wish to change the country to just the UK, this would mean that only UK nationals will show up in your results.

Date of Birth

None: A profile will only be returned if there is a name match, date of birth will not be considered. This configuration will result in the most false-positives.

Exact Match: A profile will only be returned if there is a name match, and an exact date of birth match.

Year of Birth: A profile will only be returned if there is a name match, and a match to the year of birth.

Includes matches without a date of birth: Having this option turned on, alongside 'Exact match' or 'Year of birth', meanings potential profiles that do not have a date of birth registered will still be presented to you, 51% of PEPs do not have a date of birth registered against them.

Name Match

Exact Match: A profile will only be returned if there is an exact first name and last name match, or an exact Alias match.

Fuzzy Match: A profile will be returned if there are up to two character differences between the input name and the profile/alias name. For example Elliott would bring up results for Elliot, as would Stephen vs Steven.
